Rostelecom to link Europe, Asia with $500 mln fibre optic line
MOSCOW, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- Russian state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom has started laying a U.S. $500 million fiber optic line across the country under the working title of TEA (Transit Europe-Asia of the new generation) NEXT, the company said on Wednesday in a statement.
“In order to fulfil the project, Rostelecom set up firm Atlas, which will engage financial and strategic partners, a Russian Federation bank and a group of foreign investors and connection operators. Total investment will stand at about $500 million in the next few years,” the statement read.
TEA NEXT, which will continue operating project Transit Europe-Asia, will run on a new route passing through the main large cities.
In 2023–2024, Rostelecom will introduce on the market a whole new set of services based on leasing out physical infrastructure to organize connection channels between Europe and Asia via TEA NEXT.
